Solidarity with Iraq’s orphans

Only silence has echoed through the corridors of power in Great Britain, in relation to the news that 4.5 million child orphans now exist in Iraq, according to the Iraqi Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs

The ministry also announced in January, that there are an estimated 500,000 orphans now living in Iraq’s streets, without accommodation or an appropriate care provider, as the Iraqi news agency Voices of Iraq reported, that there are only around 459 orphans who are currently residing in Iraqi government funded orphanages.

There is uncertainty as to how many children are actually being held in "detention" inside of prisons in Iraq, or even information relating to the welfare of children who are now resident in refugee camps as a result of the crisis. There also exists no record of those children who have been kidnapped by criminal gangs and whose lives are being held hostage for use in the now booming sex trade.

The Iraq Solidarity Campaign does hold the regime of the ruling Labour Party fully responsible for these abuses and we would urge that people in Great Britain, see the elections on May 1st as being an opportunity to demonstrate your solidarity with the children of Iraq and use the power of your ballot to remove those responsible for these crimes.

Our organisation is working directly with the orphans and helping them, if you wish to support us please go to the website here. We also work with the US, UK and other military forces to track down the religious gangs and militia who have been responsible for much of the killing that has been the cause of this terrible rise in orphans. The good news for all the British people is that our week with the British Army in the Basra region with other help from Policeman from your country has meant there has been a large drop in that region, we are hoping to get the US soldiers to use the same British tactics. We thank the British soldiers who have helped us and the British people for what they have done.

Dissapointed to see Yusef Al-Zawari's comments hidden, his organisation does great work in Iraq, Indy is not right in just allowing one side of the conflict there. Readers need to know about the NGOs on the ground and what they can do to support them.

Poor choice made here mods, please unhide his comments
