having served a week in detention, barbara was freed this morning at 11.45

she was imprisoned by sentence of district judge snow at horseferry road magistrates court last week after she refused to answer police bail for an arrest which took place outside parliament on the 26th february after an incident where she harangued alan duncan mp for his collusion in crimes of humanity and other war crimes committed in iraq.

in her defence she pointed out that charing cross police had continually used police bail as a means to harass her, often making her turn up to the station several times before dropping charges, offering no evidence or losing court cases. it was part of a massive campaign against her and other peace protestors in parliament square, and that, far from being criminals themselves, barbara and others were the only ones actually doing law!

she had had enough, had asked for a judicial review of the bail requirements, and refused to submit to police last week.

fifteen of them arrested her, then held her in cells all day and overnight, before judge snow imposed his sentence.

judge snow himself is the subject of judicial reviews, and should surely have recused himself from this case, but instead he imposed a two week sentence on barbara. because of time already served and parole etc she was released this morning.

meanwhile, supporters had put in a writ for habeus corpus at the high court, and in a move which a leading barrister described as 'most unusual', the high court discussed the case in a completely closed session yesterday, adjourning it to tomorrow.

the habeus corpus case will be heard in court 1 at 10am at the high court tomorrow morning and supporters are welcome
