In the hail, snow, and freezing weather, protestors from the South West and Wales gathered at Construction Gate. The action was limited to shouting at a - probably - staff-free base; the draconian byelaws had been dropped for the day.

However, the good humour of the protestors, singing from Bristol's Red Notes Choir and Côr Cochion Caerdydd and tasty vegan food provided by Veggies seemed to lift the spirits on an otherwise muddy and cold day.

Clarification on Aldermaston byelaws

28.03.2008 19:13

Just for clarification:

- There is *NO BAN* on protesting on MoD land outside AWE Aldermaston. You can come and protest whenever you like. Or better still, BLOCKADE*!!

- There is a ban on camping on the MoD land, but it is understood the Aldermaston Women's Peace Camp intends to defy it and carry on their monthly camp regardless, as they have for over twenty years. There has been a ban on camping for many years, but it has never previously been enforced.

- The recently introduced byelaw forbidding attaching things to objects including the perimeter fence was recently overturned by the High Court, so protesters can now attach whatever they like wherever they like!

Hope that clears up some of the myths!

*n.b. blockading at AWE Aldermaston carries the risk of arrest and a conviction for the non-recordable offence of obstructing the highway

London to Geneva anti-nuclear walk starts Chernobyl Day, Sat 26 April

28.03.2008 23:05

Ceremony to mark Chernobyl Day will kick off London to Geneva anti-nuclear walk

You are warmly invited to join Footprints for Peace on Saturday 26 April for the start of their three-month, 1500km International Peace Walk towards a Nuclear-Free Future, from London to Geneva through France.

The day has special significance as it marks the 22nd anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. The opening ceremony will take place at Battersea Park Peace Pagoda, London from 9.30am (nearest tube: Sloane Square; speakers to be confirmed). The walk will set off shortly after the informal one-hour ceremony.

All are warmly invited to attend to remember those who have lost their lives and those still suffering from the Chernobyl tragedy 22 years ago. We of course also remember all those affected by the nuclear industry; from Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the nuclear bomb test veterans to aboriginal communities affected by the uranium mining industries; from victims of ‘depleted’ uranium (DU) munitions used in Iraq and the Balkans to all the children who have contracted leukaemia from living close to nuclear power stations.

It is time to send out a loud and clear message that we will not allow our world and our future to be further blighted by a deadly radioactive legacy and the risk of nuclear war, supposedly in the name of fighting climate change, 'keeping the lights on' and national security.

Please join us for an hour, a day, a week or the entire walk!!

Please note: this is a drug and alcohol free walk.

Schedule for Day 1 - Chernobyl Day, Saturday 26th April 2008

Just a bit confused

02.04.2012 09:23

The sign clearly states ''no photography'' yet you still took photos, that shows in its self that you are not willing to adhere to laws. Also i wish to point out that without this countries nuclear deterrent we would be left defenseless, and so someone has to do it. Just because you are sat outside waving flags, ILLEGALLY taking photos and generally being in the way will not result in the decommissioning of the Trident program.

You are of course allowed to voice your concerns though in my opinion it is (without a doubt) pointless, if we where to abandon the program we would be inferior and open to threat from countries with WMDs.
