ALF raids fur farm in Ireland, again
ALF Ireland | 20.03.2008 17:41 | Animal Liberation | Ecology
The Animal Liberation Front (ALF) has released 500 mink from their cages at a fur farm in Vicarstown, spray-painting graffiti around the buildings. The farm was first raided in February 2003, when 1,000 mink were released, making the action the first recorded fur farm raid in Ireland. This would be the second...
The Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade (CAFT) has opposed the fur farms in Ireland for as long as they have in the England, Scotland & Wales, resulting in the Fur Farming (Prohibition) Act 2000; although this does not include Ireland.
Although the coalition has no connection with the ALF, a spokesperson from CAFT said to the local media:
"This is the first we’ve heard about this. We’re not a group that gets involved in any illegal activities. We do however support direct legal action. We demonstrate and distribute publications opposing the fur trade and would not condone last weekend’s actions."
"We can understand though why some people are inclined to take matters into their own hands in this way. There is a lot of frustration at the slowness of the Government in coming forward with legislation to outlaw the fur trade in the country."
"Some people see this type of action as similar to freeing slaves. Those underground activists see mink farmers as locking up wild animals against their nature in confined spaces."
There will also be an day of action in Portlaoise, in May or June, followed up by a protest at the furm. More information: http://www.caft.org.uk

Communique from ALF Ireland
22.03.2008 17:36
"Last weekend, the Irish Animal Liberation Front visited Ireland's largest fur farm - Vasa Ltd, in Co. Laois.
The ALF made their way through the locked gate in a matter of seconds, and then the real fun started...
A quick scan of the area showed that the sheds were enclosed in an area secured by corrugated steel. No problem - a huge hole was then cut into this, the wire mesh behind it snipped, and the hedgerow behind that was then cleared - to allow the Mink easy access to the river running beside this concentration camp.
Graffiti was sprayed all around the place, including the signature 'ALF' calling card.
300 breeding cards were removed from one of the sheds, and then destroyed.
Moving onto the next shed, 300 Mink were liberated and were then guided to freedom, before the ALF disappeared into the darkness. It was unbearable to have to leave the others behind.
Una and Michael Heffernan are responsible for murdering over 45,000 Mink on this death camp every year. It's time to make them pay for this.
The ALF will be back, Una and Michael - and don't think that the cows and horses you keep locked up too were unnoticed.
Until all are free,
ALF Ireland"
