MARCH 15th - Call out for Autonomous Bloc/Presence

o rly. | 14.03.2008 18:56 | Anti-militarism | Iraq | Social Struggles

Thousands of people on the streets to oppose war - let's not waste it with the same routine.

March 15th sees the next in a series of demonstrations organised by the Stop the War Coalition - highlighting the same speakers, the same locations and fundamentally, the same tactics of A to B marching. Large demonstrations have their place in the struggle against war - but the anti-war movement (on these outings) remains mostly static, predictable and containable. The march organisers, with their ability to call events that mobilise thousands of people, maintain the stagnation - and fundamentally do not stop wars - nor do they challenge the system of capital and greed that make wars an inevitability.

At these demonstrations, the intrusive eyes of the FIT team are rarely challenged as we're spied on, spontaneity is dampened by routine and self-policing by the march organisers, and direct action is discouraged by those who fear an anti war movement which they can not control and govern. If mass mobilisations against the horrors of war and the destruction of the planet are going to remain relevant, maintaining the same repetitive tactics will be our graveyard.

Wishing to echo some of the voices appearing on Indymedia in the past few days, and their comments about the Stop the War Coalition and their tactics, we propose a gathering on March 15th of those who don't believe in taking the same routes, repeating the same mistakes and making a day when thousands gather to oppose war just another forgettable A to B procession. Having a grouped presence on this march is NOT designed to undermine affinity group based action - far from it. We'd like to see a free, collective presence on March 15th that provides a brief forum for ideas and fundamentally a base to take action.

Anarchists, queers, free thinkers, clowns, autonomists, pixies, you, me etc., meet up, discuss, bring ideas, make plans and take action against war together. This movement is what we make it.

Meet up:
Provisionally, meet at the top of Trafalger Square., 11:45 onwards. There's no set plan, let's see what we can do.
(Probably look for the red and black flags - we're not implying a need for conformity, they will probably just be a distinctive thing to look for (=]). This should be an open gathering of those tired of A to B tactics, trudging around the same route of Central London. Anti-authoritarians, please.

No business as usual - destroy the war machine.

Except for ending slavery, nazism and communism war never solved anything did it. Wake up the war on terrorism is neccessary, we face a dangerous enemy in the form of Al Qaeda and Islamic fundamentalism. Iraq and Afghanistan are the front lines in that war on terror and we need to win it.

10,000 people turned up but then again Millwall got 24,400. Then all the Fitwatchers got nicked - very worthwhile.
