Work has been continuing at EcoWorks with the Straw Bale building in Nottingham. Since my last posting, the building is nearly fully enclosed now. Window frames have been fitted in the main part of the building.

Work has been continuing at EcoWorks with the Straw Bale building in Nottingham. Since my last posting, the building is nearly fully enclosed now. Window frames have been fitted in the main part of the building.

Only a few frames still need to be fitted into the kitchen area and the doors. You'll see the hessian 'sacking' still loose around some of the frames. This is so when the rendering is applied around the frames, that it will 'key' on the smooth wood surfaces below, and help create the seal required.

The roof over the kitchen has been fully boarded, and roof felt nailed down to provide waterproofing. Eventually, a 'living roof' will be on top of this, like with the rest of the building.

You also see the boarding up of the gable end was finished in this session.

So, dear readers, if you have enjoyed watching the progress of this building being constructed ..... how about getting out from behind your computer screen, and get up to EcoWorks in the new year, and volunteer your services.

All could have been done a lot earlier, if a bunch of 'already-skilled' people had just got on with it. But, it was generally descided that by involving many volunteers, folks might go away, and having been inspired by the project, and with a bit of hands-on experience ....... have ideas and help others think about what they could do with other sustainable projects in their own areas.

While photographing this project, my first time since the winter break, I went to the pond a few metres away from the building. There was a regular frog orgy going on! I thought I'd include these here, to demonstrate spring has definitely sprung. It's official !!
