ELF Burn Down Luxury Homes

Earth Liberation Front | 03.03.2008 22:08 | Climate Chaos | Ecology | Social Struggles | World

Early this morning, at around 4am, three multimillion-dollar model homes in a Seattle suburb were burnt down with messages left by the ELF, "Built Green? Nope black!", mocking the claims that the homes were environmentally friendly.

Gutted...

The buildings, originally estimated at $2 million, then re-calculated to be worth $7 million dollars, and were completely destroyed in the fires.

Other messages were spraypainted on homes “Stop Urban Sprawl”; “If you build it we will burn it”; and “Burn the rich.”

A banner was also left saying: "Built green? Nope black! McMansions in RCD's r not green. ELF"

RCD=rural cluster developments

Purpose of this action?

04.03.2008 02:47

What is the purpose of such an action? Houses built again using up more resources. Fires killing animals such as rodents. Risk to fireman. Sorry, I don't get it.

Confused

Or in some cases (such as those above 5 million) the builders abandon their plans. Social struggles and environmentalism through armed struggle - burn the rich sums it up.

Wiki gave it a page...

purpose should be obvious

04.03.2008 10:23

these are not houses, they're bloated McMansions. Nobody needs a four thousand square foot house. If this action drives property prices down and prevents the building of more McMansions it will have saved more land and pollution. It's just a pity the McMansions were burned, not demolished with explosives in such a way that the components could be safely scavenged to build shelters for the homeless ;)

don't understand

04.03.2008 10:41

So these ELF people claim they are saving the world by burning houses? Who gave them the right to act in such a manner? God? Gaia? or some little voice in the back of their little heads.
Sorry but this is a criminal act. The people who did this are no different than your ordinary firebug, except that the ELF are arrogant enough to think their mindless act is political.

what's the point?

Self-defence

The little voice in their head was probably relating to the slaughter of the earth, resulting in the destruction of habbitats, which would eventually reach their location, and they weren't willing to wait for it. The calculated damage done to the Earth is no comprison to the action mentioned.

Furthermore, this has recieved hundreds of media articles, probably thousands in days to come, some of which criticising the multi-million homes, that serve no other purpose for a billionaire to collect, like a card in a pack. Furthermore, that the homes were far from environmental, despite the usual claims.

The use of a Class War theme will also certainly recieve interest from the overwhelming majority of the global public, along with the lengths the individuals went to, in an attempt to protect the Earth from future harm.

In this day and age, went 99% of the population KNOW the media are bent, and mostly still read it, you've got nothing to loose by picking up any form of press for your cause.

When handing out a leaflet is an act of terrorism, this isn't only justified, it's part of a solution to wake people up to the issues the world is facing.

growth

strangely enough destruction such as this is recorded as a net gain in economic growth statistics, since the methodology only counts the clean-up or the rebuilding, and does not count the destruction as a loss (the same thing happens with the natural environment which is discounted entirely when its built on)

so effectively you could argue that it didn't actually happen since it is not recorded statistically

this is dodgy, leads to strategy of tension

-- The ELF are one big pain in the ass for the American state and business interests. These actions are some of the most incredible, awe-inspiring events, much more inspiring than the back-biting and snitching which has happening as an outcome of key people folding under the pressure of the government repression. One thing is for sure, actions by small numbers of people can have profound results and this is what is needed to keep the resistance burning.

Viva the ELF

ya gotta start somewhere
