Guild of Students at the University of Birmingham failed to approve the application for a "Palestine Society"
Palestine Society NOT ALLOWED in Birmingham!!!
Most student societies in the UK are already thinking about their plans for next year but not the (would be) "Palestine Society" in the university of Birmingham. The guild of students there failed to approve the application for a "Palestine Society". They did not give any real reason as they were aware that this was illegal and the Guild of Students has been using many different delaying tactics. Firstly they expressed concern about several aspects of the application for a society but after the applicants took their concerns into consideration the application was still not approved. The only answer so far is: "{the guild of students} aren't sure whether or not the society would conflict with the certain policies".
This is not a new for the Guild of Students at the University of Birmingham, the Palestine Society has not been allowed to operate on campus for the last 6 years. In a rare occasion in 2006 the Guild of Students executive gave the following reasons for not allowing the "Palestine Society": (quoted from Guild Exec minutes)
* Palestinian Society would create a forum for racism.
* Palestinian Society would jeopardise the safety of the university.
* Palestinian Society would provide a platform for extreme political groups.
