Pauline Campbell arrested at HMP Styal

Guido | 18.02.2008 14:35 | Repression | Social Struggles

On January 23rd Lisa Marley aged 32 died in the ‘care’ of HMP Styal in Cheshire. On February 5th veteran campaigner Pauline Campbell brought her unique form of protest to the prison and was promptly arrested for the fifteenth time. Lisa was the sixth woman to die inside the walls of Styal since the death of Pauline’s daughter Sarah in 2003. She was the forty-first woman to die across England and Wales since that time.

Pauline stopped a prison van from entering the establishment arguing that it was not a safe place to take a woman prisoner. The Police arrived and she was arrested, handcuffed and held for nine hours before being charged and released. Pauline said: "Being held in police custody for over nine hours, locked in a dirty police cell for most of the time (and I did complain about that) does not deter me. For daring to protest against the death of a young mother, the criminal justice system again seeks to criminalise and punish me."

Shocking Treatment of Pauline

18.02.2008 23:51

The numbers of suicides inn our prisons is a disgrace and its good and necessary that these demonstrations take place and i am glad to have supported some of them in person. The behaviour of the police as depicted in these photographs is callous, loutish and utterly shocking. I know from personal experience of the bullying cowards that hide behind police uniforms in Brighton how bad the conduct of the police can be and I have witnbesed it first hand at deoonstrations but dragging a sixty year old woman in vulnerable health along the ground is so the most shameful of behaviour.
This though is a core problem surrounding deaths while in the "care" of the state - a lack of shame.
May i send good wishes to pauline at this time and, also express sincere condolensces to Lisa's family and friends

Cheshire Police Cowboys.

The photos are evidence of the brutal and aggressive manner in which Pauline was treated by the cowboys that are Cheshire Police.

I hope she takes action against them for the unlawful way in which they arrested her and held her in appalling conditions for some length of time.

Cheshire Police are corrupt and you can hear their spurs jangling as they walk down the street. They protect the favoured few and their masonic brothers. Masons are very prominent in Cheshire Police, though the Chief Constable, Peter Fahy, is not one of them.

How can they justify this action and arrest? I don't doubt they won't even try to as they are so arrogant and believe they are above the law, assuming they know what the law is.

Of Course the handcuffs were necessary

Handcuffs are just another tool in the arsenal which is the police force, the police force itself a tool in that oppressive arsenal that props up our 'democracy'

She will probably be made to go cap in hand and apologise to group 4 for interrupting them in their 'law abiding occupation'
