One in Love - Reclaim St Valentine's Day

Peter Marshall | 18.02.2008 13:02 | Culture | London

Piccadilly Circus comes alive for one day a year for the 'Operation Infinite Love' event which aims to reclaim St Valentine's Day as an event about people and love rather than commercialism. This year's party was on Saturday 16 Feb.

Piccadilly Circus is usually one of London's most dreary tourist traps, dominated by that huge wall of flashing neon worshipping the worst excesses of consumerism. Eros, erected as a monument to a great but eccentric nineteenth century philanthropist, looks down an a dismal crowd of tourists who can never quite work out why they bothered to come here.

At least one day a year, thanks to Venus, things are very different, with live music provided by Rhythms of Resitance and others, and a great deal of love and party spirit being spread, along with some free t-shirts and free food.

You people should get a job and stop funding your 'alternative lifestyle' by sponging off the tax payer by claiming benefits. You should also get real as well as you anarchist hippies live in cloud cookoo land.
