Mansoor Hassan Given Indefinite Leave To Remain In UK

After a 5 year campaign to seek asylum in the UK, the Pakistan journalist Mansoor Hassan, now living in Manchester, has been given permission to stay in the UK.

Many people throughout Greater Manchester, will be aware of the high profile campaign which has been organised by the Manchester Branch of the NUJ to obtain asylum for the Pakistan Journalist Mansoor Hassan, who fled Pakistan over 5 years ago following deaths threats and attacks on his life for his journalist activities. This week Mansoor and his family were informed that they had been granted indefinite leave to remain in the UK.

There are glimmers of hope like this case that make the struggle for justice and truth so worthwhile - Mansoor and his family have shown a bravery and sacrifice that few of us can comprehend - to stand up to the tyranny of the feudal power system in Pakistan time and again is to be saluted. I wish Mansoor,his family, and supporters peace and happiness.
