Keep Richard Branson Out of the NHS!

Richard Buckwell | 07.02.2008 14:03

Richard Branson's Virgin Healthcare is moving in on the NHS. It's holding a presentation in Nottingham Castle on Tuesday evening. This week's meeting of Notts Trades Council decided to back a protest outside Nottingham Castle at 6:30pm on Tuesday (12 February). If you value the NHS, come along and help defend it!

This is from the press release off the Virgin Healthcare web site:

"Following two years of extensive consultation, the Virgin Group today announced that a new business, Virgin Healthcare, will enter the primary healthcare market in 2008. Virgin Healthcare will be opening centres jointly with NHS GPs and other healthcare professionals. The centres will consolidate a wide range of primary care health services in state of the art facilities. The first Virgin Healthcare centre will open later in 2008 - with an initial roll-out of five further centres, located across England, to open by the end of 2009."

The presentation on Tuesday is designed to show GPs what a marvellous time they will have if they join up to this venture.

A noisy demonstration outside will show them that those who work for the NHS in Nottingham (and potential patients) are determined to defend our NHS against creeping privatisation.

Public Service Not Private Profit!

Turn up outside the Castle entrance on Tuesday evening after work if you possibly can (from 6.30pm}.
