Council climate hypocrisy!

Fletch | 29.01.2008 22:00 | Climate Chaos

Has anyone seen the latest (jan 08) copy of "Arrow", Nottm City Council's promotional mag? It's online at  http://www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/arrow-jan08.pdf.

On page 8 they have a page trumpetting the committment made at a "Core Cities" conference (held in Nottingham) to tackle climate change...well done City Council, how "green" of you!

BUT, on the next few pages, there is a reader survey. And the bribe for completing the survey? The chance to win cheap Ryanair flights!

Joined up thinking on Climate Change? I don't think so! Does the Council *really* want to face up to the huge problem of Climate Change? Don't think so! Saying the right things isn't enough - need to do things too!

Why not tell the council what you think of their climate hypocrisy - use the freepost foldout with the survey...

Airport deal?

29.01.2008 22:09

What a crass choice of prize! I imagine that Ryanair have offered the council the flights as prizes to help keep them sweet and ensure continued support for East Mids Airport....

Elsewhere in the Arrow it goes on about the Broadmarsh redevelopment, how excellent it will be for the City, etc. What do the council think the effects on CO2 emissions of all that building work, tonnes of concrete etc will be, and of all the pointless extra shopping opportunities that are the end result? Twats!

Cynic

Nice,tax subsidises4air fuel & council advertising a company with a fascist boss

Ryan airs boss publicly advocated shooting environmental activists, making him officially a terrorist as well as a serious climate criminal.
Nice choice nottingham city council, very green, Robin Hoods wont be vhappy. Why not ask Nick Griffin to endorse a Holocaust memorial

I love flying.

I like driving to the aiport too.

Anyone who sits and whines about flying should cease to eat or drink or wear or use ANYTHING that comes from abroad.

I'd love to see you crusties turn up for your next rant and placard waving session (for the next "Bandwagon" event)in homegrown hemp clothes, eating your own grown veggies, having bathed in rainwater.

I reckon it would be fun to wave at you from my car window as you WALK there too.

You may think be silly, but my point it: you can't just complain about all the things that modernisation can do for you. We have evolved, and we use more resources. We have benefited from travel, and trade. Until we find a magic solution to power problems, stop picking on those who just want to have a holiday.

Abandon your rancid crusty buses, and stop moaning

Walking vs driving

How else would we get to our protests - there simply isn't enough public transport that would take us to the ends of runways/ power stations/ incinerators.

Irony?

Maybe I'll get a job.
