Olivier, who was sent to Leeds after fleeing persecution in Cameroon, faces deportation to Cameroon on monday 28 january despite having only been released from hospital a week ago, after suffering an acute crisis with sickle cell anaemia. Olivier was admitted to hospital on january 14th 2008 with what he describes as a "pain crisis" related to his sickle cell disease.
He has been told he will be deported to Cameroon on Monday january 28th. His life will be in serious danger due to inadeqaute medical care in Cameroon and he is very fearful of facing persecution on his return, because he spoke out against the cameroonian governments mistreatment of sickle cell sufferers. After fleeing Cameroon to France he was again targetted by Cameroonian intelligence after he spoke out again at a UN conference in France.
He is due to report to the immigration building at Waterside Court, Kirkstall Road this Friday, at which time he may be detained
Supporters from Leeds Medsin (a group of medical students ), supporters from his church in Armley and Leeds No Borders have organised a demonstration against his deportation at Waterside Court this Friday 25 january 2008 at 11.30 am.
