You could well be very right. Then again considering there have been genuine contaminations (as well as many thought to be real hoaxes), it could be seen as a very silly idea by the company to not pull the products - given complaints because it really has happened and the reason becomes known.

ALF activists are smart, once companies start ignoring hoaxes, they are more likely to occur for real.
