New London Social Centres for the new year

londonscn | 03.01.2008 13:35 | Culture | Free Spaces | Social Struggles | London

There is a meeting on the 6th of Jan to breath new life into maintaining radical autonomous social centres in London. The aim will be to set up a London wide social centres collective which will open and help run squatted spaces as well as publish listings of events and activites taking place in these spaces. The meeting will probably take place at rampART at 2pm unless is needs to be moved in which case it will be at LARC.

The new year got off to a cracking start with romours of a new space being openned in the early hours of the 1st Jan. Details to follow when confirmed.

If you have a mobile phone and would like to stay informed about any
urgent news on social centre eviction threats or the openning of new spaces etc, subscribe to the free SMS alerts service on twitter.

It allows a large number of people to be informed very quickly should
there be an attempt to evict a social centre and hopefully mobilise enough people to make such attempts unsucessful.

To join, text 'follow londonscn' to 07624801423. You will receive a
message in return and you should reply to that text as instructed with a
name of your choosing.

Subscribing will cost you the normal fee for sending two text messages
(probably 20pm in total) and there is no charge to receive the alerts.

We don't run the service, it is provided by an american company (see
twitter.com). There are privacy implications but we don't believe they are
significant in this particular context. If you are the paranoid type,
don't sign up.

In the future, this service will be used to annouce events taking place at
London Social Centres but currently it will only used for emergency
alerts and callouts.

You can unsubscribe at any time following the instructions that are texted
to you when you join up.
