Masser | 29.12.2007 12:18 | SOCPA | Climate Chaos | Social Struggles | London

No police this time. This whole thing is sent by Smartphone.

There were about 40 riders braving the wind and rain and no police this time. This is the one and only ride of the year where the police don't turn up. So why does this one need no policing? Could it be smething to do with Christmas and New Year?

Anyway, the traffic congestion by motor vehicles seem worse than usual causing the Mass to split up.

Too cold

I think the police didn't come because they knew it would be so small. I for one do not go to critical mass in this weather.

Often colder.

The police turn up other times when it is even colder and always seem to turn up for the the remaining eleven months the year regardless of the weather. So why, for the last few years, have they never turned up for the December ride?

Why no police ?

It's simply down to manning levels. During December police patrols are increased in the major shopping areas to deal with an increased amount of minor street crime and shoplifting and as such there are not enough police available to deal with what is always the smallest Critical Mass of the year.

that activists and the so-called alternative media are totally obsessed by the police, describing events in terms of the actions or inaction of the police rather than by talking about our own motives and action.
