Public Meeting: How Safe is Sudan? The Case for Asylum
Dignity Not Detention | 12.12.2007 17:14 | Anti-racism | Migration | Repression | Sheffield
The saga of Gillian Gibbons and the teddy bear showed how dangerous the Sudanese Government/military/judiciary can be. Darfuri asylum seekers in the UK are in real danger from the Home Office and the Sudanese Government
This meeting has been called because of concerns that the Home Office is:
Interviewing Darfuri asylum seekers in Yorkshire and around the UK in an illegal and intimidating manner - Sudanese Government officials have been present at Home Office interviews
Trying to deport Darfuri asylum seekers to the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, where they will be in fear for their lives
Confirmed speakers: Sudanese and Darfuri asylum seekers from Leeds and Sheffield; representatives from organisations campaigning to stop deportations to Sudan.
Organised by South Yorkshire Migration and Asylum Action Group
