Help! us bring 20 exemplary women, social strugglers from Mexico and
the world to Chiapas, southern Mexico! The América del Valle Caravan
is seeking help to carryout this historic delegation to the third
Gathering of Zapatista Communities with the Peoples of the World
“Comandanta Ramona”, with the expressed central theme being women,
which will be held the 29th, 30th, and 31st of December, in the
autonomous municipal Caracol of the La Garrucha.
Women and men from various collectives and groups from Mexico City and
Oaxaca have come together to organize to guarantee the transportation
and accommodation for 20 women from different parts of the Mexico and
the world. The women invited on this caravan are women that represent
geographical regions or sectors of society with defined objectives,
such as in the case of the women from Oaxaca, which many represent
indigenous communities. These women do not have the economic resources
to make this journey to Chiapas, and it is of vital importance for the
struggle of the Other Campaign that these women meet and
inter-exchange their ideas and words.
Indigenous women, students, sex-workers, women farm-workers, and
political prisoners are but just a few examples of sectors of women
that will come together for this gathering with the objective to
create links, analysis, discussion and exchange of experiences of
struggle with an end result of creating connections that will serve to
let us get to know our demands, our efforts, and above all else our
proposals to combat the current policy of extermination that this
capitalist, neo-liberal, and patriarchal bad government maintains.
Within the process of inviting the women that will integrate the
América del Valle Caravan, women of the Other Campaign meeting in
preparation for the gathering in Chiapas are also participating in the
proposal and invitation process. In this way, the caravan delegates
will count on the recognition from as many women possible creating the
opportunity and course towards the Zapatista Women’s Gathering.
We chose to name the caravan América del Valle in recognition of our
friend from the Other Campaign, who currently is in political-exile
from Mexico due to the events that occurred the 3rd and 4th of May,
2006 in Atenco and Texcoco, in the state of Mexico.
