You give us a link to usenet, which gives a link to a story in the Daily Mail. This is bound to get hidden, because it isn't news. Even if you had bothered to make it into a news story, eg what its about, why iys important, what can be done about it etc etc, it would probably still be hidden because it isn't very obvious how it fits in with the mission statement of the site.

Yes, it sounds like a tragic story - but no-one is going to know anymore than the paid journo at the daily Mail chooses to tell us about it. It seems to me be a distraction from the real horrors that happen in our world on a daily basis.
