Stockholm, Sweden - A new group calling itself The Indians of the Concrete Jungle has claimed credit for vandalizing more than one-thousand SUVs in order to draw attention to climate change and discourage motorists from driving vehicles that create such a high impact on the environment. The group first made itself known through actions followed by press releases in the nation's capital, but now say that other "tribes" have taken up the cause and employed similar tactics in the cities of Gothenburg, Malmö and Sundsvall.

Ten large fuel inefficient automobiles were sabotaged between Monday night and Tuesday morning in the Fredhäll area. Each SUV had it's tires deflated and notes affixed to their windshields saying that "This does not have to happen if we impose a radical cut on carbon emissions. Now. Not tomorrow. That’s why we have disarmed your SUV by deflating the tires."

"If selective SUV-disarmament is done repeatedly and on a massive scale, it will develop from a slight annoyance in the eyes of the owners into a real obstacle for driving the things, thus putting an end to perhaps the most obnoxious aspect of bourgeois carbon addiction," claimed a statement on the saboteurs website.

A small stone

As the Taz tells us  https://www.taz.de/index.php?id=archivseite&dig=2007/08/03/a0093 as environmental protectionists search for new forms of political militancy placing a small stone in the valve will let the air out slowly - while you leave a leaflet behind and can move on.

Criminal in the UK at least

I believe the fact that it sin't criminal damage doesn't stop it from being criminal in the UK at least as it is tampering with a motor vehicle. I could be wrong. I remember it off an episode of The Bill ;-)

But anyway, who cares whether it is legal or not.

new plan

even better would be to cut the brake lines then as the people lay dying in a car accident they can reflect upon the damage done to the environment

This happened to me!

I live in Oxford, UK and someone chose to do this to me!

I use my Discovery Very sustainably, as it replaces the job of a van, a people carrier, an emergency vehicle and yes on occasion I do use it off road.

I use it off road because my father lives in the countryside and on occasion it is required if I want to get home.

As an emergency vehicle it has LITERALLY saved the lives of my girl friend and one of my other friends as well as taking several of my others to hospital in a very fast and efficient way.

It fits 7 people in it, to get 7 people to go somewhere you would need 4 smart cars which would use twice the fuel and if there is a public transport route I take that.

I use it to also transport equipment which simply wouldn’t fit in other seated cars, a van yes but then the other uses become moot.

Targeting SUV’s is a green wash, my diesel discovery gets 30 miles to the gallon, a lot more than many other cars especially automatics and petrol cars. And I use my car on average once a month, I commute to a local sustainable office via bike or other people powered transports and shop locally on foot even though it would be cheaper to drive to a peripheral shopping centre.

I find these idiots who are choosing trendy, soft targets incredibly infuriating they are like the animal rights protestors who ignore thalidomide babies (which was tested on animals but not pregnant ones, because that would have been ‘unethical’) or those who have taken antibiotics, they are hypocritical misinformed layabouts who spend their time focusing on short sighted easy goals and I do not have time for them.

p.s. sorry for the rant but there are people out there being mature and making a positive difference and these people devalue their work!
