The Money Club

Margaret | 20.11.2007 17:14 | Globalisation | Repression | Social Struggles | London

The money club is calling for monetary justice.

We use money all the time, but how does is it created? Who has the power to create it? Money, the regulator of our goods and services are distributed, has been manipulated by the financial elite in alliance with those at the top of central so that social inequalities rise, multinationals dominate, the environment is damaged. Q. Where does a bank get it's money from if you ask for a loan? A. Thin air! No lie! Banks have the power to create money, as debt, they don't take it from other people's bank accounts(like I used to think). 97% of the monetary supply in Britain is created into existance by banks, in the forms of loans i.e. a debt, but the public isn't made aware of this. Only 3% is made by the bank of England, in the form of coins and notes. Our economy is dependant on debt!! Come along to find out more, and speak to monetary reformers on the subject and see what we're doing to stop this injustice.

The location is at Room 2C at the University of London Union, Malet Street on Tuesday 27th November at 6pm.

Speaker Janos Abel, will open up explaining how the money system currently operates. He's very experienced in explaining the economy and plain speaking. There will be a 10 minute cartoon, Money is Debt with discussion afterwards. Then we will have people from London Local Economic Trading Sceme, who set up complementary currencies in their area, debt free, to explain what they do and how we can help.
