Czeck republic, Prague: Clashes between 1000s of Nazis and Antifascists

balmrx | 11.11.2007 21:43 | Anti-racism | World

About 1000 nazis tried to march through the jewish quarter of Prague to remember the "Reichskristallnacht" 1938 when Nazis burned thousands of synagogues within one night. Many 1000s tried to stop the nazis from doing so. After one nazi shot into the crowd with a gas pistol, situation went out of control: nazis were attacked, dispersed, hunted and beaten all over the city.

This evening news came in, that same time in Spain, Madrid, a nazi stabbed an antifascist with a knife in the metro. The young antifascust died. Protest marches all over Spain tonight.

antifa did good

if nazis want to celebrate the holocaust by marching through the jewish part of town, then they can only expect to meet some resistance. If nazis want to fire gas pellets into crowds of anti racist protesters then I guess they can only expect a good kicking... and that's what they got. There are pictures of them on the front page of the Czech national newspapers hiding behind police under the headline "The neo-nazis came to town, and got taught a lesson"

German antifa travelled down to help us out. The Jewish population went out on the streets and wore stars of David with pride. It pissed it down all day, the police held back most of the antifa in cordons or bloacked them in side streets...

This was a brilliant day for people who want to defend diversity in Prague and all of the region. I'd like to see them try and hold this march next year....

I meet Prague comrades from CSAF, heavily involved in antifa, before the summer. I was quite impressed about how serious and determined they are. Tough as nails.
Well done. It´s cheered me up somehow after the events in Madrid.
Antifascism is an international struggle.
