Two ABC activists wounded at Venezuela demo.

A sympathiser of venezuela ABC was shot and a member stabbed at a demo in Venezuela, demanding that the coming referendum on consitutional reform is posponed until early next year. Up to seven other students were wounded when government supporters attacked their demonstration at Venezuela Central University.

Background: In early December ammendments to the venezuelan constitution will be put to a referendum. The opposition, both right and left wing, are demanding that the date is set back, so that there is a chance to inform the public of what those changes entail as, among other things, extend presidential powers to rule by decree, and remove the limits to how long he can be in office.
In the eve of the consultation the governments rethoric, and that of its supporters, has been increasingly agressive towards the oposition, in many cases calling for the violent repression of the protests. Here's the press note from venezuela ABC as posted on indymedia venezuela.

Today, Wednesday 7th of November, 2007, Gerardo Olivares was shot in the leg while struggling with a masked government supporter. Gerardo is a student of humanities at Venezuela Central University (UCV), is an antiauthoritarian and a friend of Venezuela ABC. The attacker was part of a group of chavistas who were hidding by the Social Workers School at UCV to try to scare off the students taking part in the protest which aimed to march toward the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ).

The whole situation happened when at the end of the concentration the students from that centre were walking back to the buildings. On one side of the Venezuela Square there was a group of chavistas waiting for them armed with sticks, stones, tear gas bombs, homemade explosive devices, and guns, to disperse the crowd.

Fed up with the authoritarian and fascist attitude of the government supporters the students decided to confront the group, which found itself surrounded so they moved to lock themselves inside the Social Workers School, which is home to different pro government groups. Gerardo, among others, confronted these individuals who then, and without exchanging a word, shot him in the leg. He was one of the first to be wounded in the fight.

After that, a big number of students was hanging around outside the building of the school trying to detain the thugs locked in the school. At some point some students tried to burn down the doors of the building to force them to come out but they were unsuccessful. After waiting for an hour about a 100 government supporters on motorbikes and holding handguns rode into the university campus, shot on the students and allowed the attackers to leave.

On this second attack, the libertarian Gustavo Sandoval, a humanities student in the UCV and member of Venezuela ABC was stabbed by one of the persons on the motorbikes, rescuing the chavistas.

Luckily our two comrades are recovering well from their wounds.

These fascist attacks show clearly the authoritarian nature Hugo Chávez Frías and his supporters. In the end there were 9 students shot and many others stabbed or hurt and bruised by stones.

From venezuela ABC we make a call for support from all the antiauthoritarians and anarchists to please be aware of the situation in our country, and specially of the physical integrity of our comrades.

You can see the pictures of our friend Gerardo (with a black shirt) strugling with his attacker on our blog. The picture was taken by a journalist from associate press and shown at CNN and other wesites. It's on  http://cnainforma.blogspot.com/

We'll soon upload videos of how he collapses on the ground after being shot, and also showing how the chavistas attacked the demo, and of the motorbikers holding guns.

bell-end or not, he is right. This is counter-revolutionary bollox. Typical fucking anarchist nonsense, lining up with the right wing because they don't like the revolutionary government attacking their 'freedom' to be wankers.

Anarchy forever!

Oi,
It is never right to form an authoritarian government, and line up your opponents. This is what was wrong with Russia, China and other Stalinist regimes. Same with Chavez. The ABC and the anarchists are doing a good job, and we should support them. After all, whats the different between Hitler and Stalin? Also, Chavez is a military general. He is neither Hitler or Stalin, but he could go that way. Support the ABC!

...from a reliable progressive news source, try:
From Federico Fuentes "Green-Left Weekly" -  http://www.zmag.org/content/showarticle.cfm?SectionID=45&ItemID=14311

".....The violent campaign by small groups of fascist students — with the burning of buildings and vehicles, including that belonging to the environment minister — continued the day after Baduel's press conference. The campaign has included a number of shootings on university campuses. The national and international media have attempted to portray the students as victims of a "dictatorship", either implying or outright lying that the shootings were carried out by Chavista forces.

One example was a highly publicised shooting in the University of Zulia on November 2 that was initially blamed on Chavista students. Once it was revealed that the death had been a result of a shoot out between two rival opposition parties, the overwhelmingly anti-Chavez private media quickly dropped the story without clarifying the truth. (This should at least put to rest the lie these days Chavez controls the media.)......"
