Calais:St Germain' s Café refuse black people

zetkin | 07.11.2007 02:39 | Anti-racism | World

In Calais, when you are black, some cafés can refuse you. Without rights to make that.

I am french woman. St Germain stopped me because i was with one black man.

Tuesday, at 11.00PM, i wanted to enter inside the Café St Germain, in the north of Calais. I was with one black man.

The barman stopped me and said "You cannot drink. We don't accept refugees." He told me, 4 months before, some refugees destroyed the toilets of the café. I said "but this man, he wasn't here."

The owner of the café with one bodyguard came and repeated what the barman said. I asked him: "You tall this story in police station?" "No. And it's not the problem"

I wanted to find how it's possible to know if one black man it's a refugee. The owner was silent because he know the law against racism. But, finally, he said: "I look the clothes and i know"

I said: "i can take one avocate to listen what you say just now" The owner of the café, a big man, with a big body, was very angry; He tall: "i can phone police" I said "OK, phone police."

But he didn't make nothing. Only they put me with my black friend outside. I said just before to go: "What you make, it's racism". The owner asked me, like he was angry: "you said i am racist?" I repeated my sentence and he said "i put you in court"

After, my friend and me, we drunk one café in one good bar, with good french people.

In Calais, the racist people can make what they want. No police for them. Sarkozy likes the voice of this very bad part of our country. He needs their voice to destroy all the rights of french workers.

(sorry for my language, i speack a little english)
