Class War Video

Vipassana | 05.11.2007 12:30 | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements | London

Here's a short video of the CLASSWAR demo, where approx fifty protesters were pushed around by 500 police, in a protest to highlight the ever increasing gap between the rich and the poor and the outrage at gentrification pushing us out of our working class areas to make way for new crappy yuppie luxury flats.

The Class War demo met in the middle of the market in portabella road, which made it difficult for the police to control at first, but they soon started hassling people with banners and arresting people for anything they could pin on them such as swearing or sitting down.
Pretty poor turn out on the Anarchist frontline if yesterdays numbers represent the amount of working class people politically awake and active in London, then it shows we've still got alot of work to do in building a strong grassroots movement, we need to be on the council estates organising film screenings and opening up discussions on common issues that relate to all of us, Class War hold meetings on the first Mon of every month email them for more details.....

So we had reports of 300, 250, 200, 100, 80

...and finally 50, with some video evidence.

Huh?

A video gets posted containing breathtaking footage of the UK police state and its repression against citizens in action, something that we all need to be very concerned about right now, and some idiot posts about "the numbers game"?!!!!!!!!!!!!! Glad you've got your priorities right mate???!!!

I was on the march, and im not going to talk bullshit, there was more than 50 but to say there was 300 is a bit ridiculous. At my honest estimate there was roughly 100-120 people.

Nice but..

Nice video.

But in my eyes Class War lost a lot of credibility when they stood shoulder to shoulder with zionists waving Israeli flags against a pro-Palestine demo - major blunder.

That demo is not a palestinian rights demo, it's in support of Iran.

Not 'hands off Iran' but 'Yay for Iran, what a great country'.

Try again.

Be honest!

Tacks don't insult our intelligence. If it was about Iran why did you bring Israeli flags?

The name says it all - it was called Quds Day i.e. Jerusalem Day, not Iran day.

People can decide for themselves - the page about it is at :

Erm, if you looked at your own link you'd see it was the AWL who joined the zionists. They're a little bit different to Class War (who were probably in the pub)

If you look closely:

From the inminds article:

In this demonstration if you replace the fascist BNP with the racist zionists you have practically the same bunch - Tatchell, the Worker Communist Party of Iran, the same handful of bloggers - Harry's Place, etc. with the addition of a few extra members of the left - Alliance for Workers Liberty, and Class War...

Alliance for Workers' Liberty is a pro-Israel, anti-Muslim leftist group. They actively defend Israel by aggressively campaigning against all boycotts of Israel and at the same time they attack any perceived signs of political Islam including even the hijab which they see as a symbol of oppression. Class War are an anarchist group, their presence was particularly surprising as they don't have a history of supporting zionism.

Not from the article, just my take: Israel sucks, Iran sucks, but I'd say CW were just about on the wrong side of the barricades this time round.

Not quite so unobservant
