Don't Attack Iran!

mike | 03.11.2007 23:05 | Oxford

Oxford Stop the War Coalition meeting featuring guest speaker Somaye Zadeh from Campaign Iran.

Thursday, November 8th, 7:30 PM in the Court Room of the Town Hall on St Aldates.

The situation with Iran continues to deteriorate with tensions mounting across the region. Last weekend IAEA chief Muhamed El Baradei announced that there is “no evidence of a nuclear weapons programme” in Iran. Another senior UN official, Olli Heinonen, stated that “Iran is cooperating well.” El Baradei also called for President Bush to quite ratcheting up tensions in the region.

Meanwhile, the Bush regime continues to raise the stakes by spewing out ever more bellicose rhetoric that demonises Iran and its leadership. Here in Britain, Gordon Brown continues Tony Blair’s blind allegiance to the White House and refuses to rule out an attack on Iran. Just today, the national press reported that UK battleships will sail to the Persian Gulf early next year. Does this sound familiar? It is nearly identical to the build up to the invasion of Iraq.

The Oxford Stop the War Coalition is pleased to announce that Somaya Zadeh from Campaign Iran will speak at our regular monthly meeting, which is this coming Thursday, November 8th. Ms Zadeh, an Iranian exile, will share with us some of her observations about the situation and correct some of the many mistruths circulated in the media about Iran and Iranian society. These lies have been propagated by the US administration and our own government. Aided by the media, they support the Bush/Brown warmongering agenda.

We will use Thursday’s meeting to begin to build the Stop the War Coalition’s national day of action – “Don’t Attack Iran!” – called for Saturday, November 24th. On that day, we will join with other groups across the country to drive home to Gordon Brown and his cabinet of warmongers that we will not stand for another unprovoked attack on a foreign nation. We will demand that he disengage from Washington’s imperialist agenda.

Why Don't the StWC ever Question the Bourgoise Regime in Iran

04.11.2007 01:19

Hey - I'm of the left and have spent the last 20 odd years of my life trying to undo Capitalism and, as part of that I totally oppose American Imperialism

But I really don't like the way the Stop The War Coalition stewards and their sycophants try to silence, intimidate and hustle Iranian Communist Refugees off the demos, because they dare to speak out against sufferings of Iranians under the oppression of the reactionary Shia theocracy as well as against America's onslaught

According to the StWC the world is Black and White - With Us or Against us - it's the same message as the Bushites

It's really sickening to see the British Left stab their majority world sisters and brother in the back yet again

Like the way the Stalinists cozyed up to the Nazis in taking Poland apart - that's how the StWC and the American Imperialists acts towards the Iranian working class

No War But The Class War!

Hey....hold on a minute please. This is an just an announcement of an upcomming meeting, one that has not even taken place yet. Thats all it is! You and anybody else are very welcome to come along and participate. Thats why we announced it.

I presume from your comments that you are refering to events organised by Stop the War Coalition nationally. If you have some critisisms of the way natonal STWC has responded /controlled demonstrations or events (and I've never personally seen what you allege), then please take it up with them directly in London. Leave us out of it.

Please don't blame us here in Oxford for that because that's not the way we work. We have never controlled what people say on any local demonstrations (or meetings) and never will. We are a "coalition" and BTW right now unity is even more important. And remember this is just a meeting announcement.

Gays, Women, Journalists Are Terrorised In Iran

05.11.2007 01:23

Why should anyone believe that Iran doesn't want to build a bomb?

The Iran president Ahmadinejad says there are no gays in Iran!

Women are stoned because they've been raped!

Thousands of students and journalists have been executed because they object to the regime.

A friend of mine was given 100 lashes for having alcohol on his breath.

If Iran gets a nuclear bomb and then becomes a regional power everyone will have a lot to
fear from the spread of its intolerant version of islam.

You've convinced me Marvin

Bomb Iran because there are really gays in Iran.
Is it the rapists themselves who stone the women?
Do they really have students in Iran? We've loads of students in Sheffield driving around in their little hatchbacks , all looking like they've just been evicted from the Big Brother house , absolutley shitfaced/wankered and about as radical as a pork pie doing a business degree. Fair doos to that little Arab bloke , welcome in Sheffield anytime.
Oh , and sorry about your mate , tell im vodka (apparantly) won't smell on yer breath , either that or smack and he won't even feel the lashes.
Up the Owls!

Excuses, Not Reasons

"Why should anyone believe that Iran doesn't want to build a bomb?"

Why should anyone believe they do? The same Extremists who LIED to us about Iraq are the ONLY people making this claim, while the evidence continues to contradict them.

But all of this hatemongering is pointless, as the real reason these Fascists plot to attack Iran is to control the oil in the region, eliminate people Israeli Zionists loathe, and increase Israel/America's regional influence.
