V3 Power | 29.10.2007 10:34 | Climate Chaos | Technology | South Coast

We're running a "How to build a wind turbine" course at the Brighton Earthship on 23rd-25th November. We'll build a turbine from reclaimed materials over the three days and put it up on Sunday afternoon.

The course costs £200 which pays for accomodation, food, instructors wages and the parts for the turbine. Discounts are available on request.

We've run 4 courses of a similar format in Lincolnshire over the past 12 months. We work to the designs of Hugh Piggott - www.scoraigwind.co.uk - and build his 2.4m battery charging machine. We work as a team of around 15 split into three groups -

Blade carving
Alternator construction and electrics
Mounting welding

The alternator section involves winding the copper coils by hand, fixing the magnets to steel discs and casting everything in resin.

The turbine we built on the last course was up and spinning at climate camp charging batteries for social change!
