A campaigning website against the proposed CCTV scheme for the Cowley Road has been set up at http://www.no-cctv.org.uk
Oxford police chief Supt Brendan O'Dowda wants to install CCTV along the Cowley Road at a cost of £150,000. He has made it his personal crusade to get cameras installed. He has been joined in his quest by Andrew Smith MP and the Oxford University students' union.
A website at http://www.no-cctv.org.uk has been set up to counter their campaign.
Britain is the most spied upon nation in the world, yet we don't have the lowest crime rate. CCTV simply does not work and it is a waste of money. It goes against Britain's common law value of 'innocent until proven guilty' and with more sophisticated technology and the forthcoming National Identity Register it is simply another tool to intrude on the lives of law abiding citizens and track us all.
