Stop The War/CND London Rally and March - 8 Oct

Peter Marshall | 09.10.2007 17:36 | Anti-militarism | Iraq | London

The Stop the War/CND organised rally and march to lobby Parliament attracted around 5,000 people to Westminster on a dull Monday afternoon. Numbers were larger than expected probably because of the attempt to ban the march. Brief report and pictures.

After a rally with forceful speeches from Brian Haw, Lindsey German, Tony Benn and others including Brian Eno, Mark Steel and Mark Thomas, the march set off. Police had decided to allow it after all, as far Bridge St, just on the edge of Parliament Square.

The halted the march there, eventually allowing several groups of around 500 into Parliament Square itself. After a further holding period there, some of the marchers were allowed to continue and lobby their MPs.

The bulk of the march was still held in Parliament St. When a further group was allowed into Parliament Square they sat down in the road junction, blocking all traffic. There were a few minor scuffles with police before I left the area.

A fuller picture coverage of the rally and march up to that point is on 'My London Diary' now, at  http://mylondondiary.co.uk/2007/10/oct.htm#troopsout

I'm a prick

Being George Galloway, i'm a fucking prick and just with SWC for the votes and getting people to lick my arse.

On the side of that, I enjoy supporting cruel animal testing and being homophobic.

ps, who cares about my constituants because i'm turning MY constituency into the Big Brother house! With all new CCTV surveillance

What a collection of self promoting egotistical self indulgent wankers!

These arseholes (excluding Brian Haw) are destroying the antiwar movement with their anti direct action policies and state collusion. They are there solely to promote their own political parties!
