'the Climate Camp hijacked by liberals...'
Shift | 05.10.2007 18:48 | Analysis
...argues a new zine! Shift aims to make a contribution to radical naval gazing with analysis of G8 and Climate Camp mobilisations. The approach is simple: capitalism is more than just 'us' versus 'them'. So you won't find any articles slagging off George Bush or Coca Cola in our pages.
The very first issue of Shift includes articles about right-wing anti-capitalism, the short sightedness of the anti-G8 protests and a discussion of Living Marxism/Spiked Online's handling of science.
It will be available from social centres soon but you can order by going to our website www.shiftmag.co.uk.

This view that fascism is hostile to capitalism is held by capitalist supporting faux lefts, and of course neoliberals. Simply equating anti-capitalists and fascists goes back a long way and serves nothing more than malign capitalist propaganda.
Fascism is capitalism or more precisely a regulatory model of capitalism; it is in a sense a higher form of capitalism than the neoliberal regulatory model, which was a higher for than the Keynesian/Breton woods contructed social democratic model that was set up after the Second World War, which went on to fail spectacularly in the 70´s.
The regulatory model fails because of the contradictions within capitalism, not least the concentration of huge amounts of accumulated capital in the hands of monoplies and a few.
So facism is merely a regulatory model of capitalism to increase stability. The neoconservatives are facists, but they have this time been beaten back, not least because of the the resistance in Iraq and the resistance to the war against Iraq, and wars against Iran. If they hadn´t the neoconsrvative fascists would still be running the US and probably coming to power her by now. So the resistance in Iraq and to the war against Iraq has beaten back nascent facsim in the guise of neoconservatism, which would have spread from the US to these shores, and around Europe.
The US neocons was/is a serious project to put fascists into power and keep them there. They failed, bedcause the resistance to them was prolonged, deep and global.
The anti-war movement and anti-capitalist movement is and has accieved this: a huge thing really, and I am sure will continue to do more : it is a power in the land that gives hope. The fascist will come back again, because neoliberal capitalism isn´t working; they need a fascist regulatory system next to drive down wages and create a class of slaves - yes, just like Rome.
Maybe we should have a virtual workshop on what next for the anti-capitalist movement. Encouraging signs are our dog Lulu who is waiting patiently for her morning walk in the country has just joined the anti-capitalist movement. She has specifically asked to be in the anti-fascist dog army. Quite promising or what! .
Or better, why not have a secret meeting in the pyranesees next year, to plot to overthrow capitalism in it´s theoretic sense. Kids and dogs welcome of course..
Que Hora? . Anti-fascist.
Que Hora ? - Anti-racist
Que Hora? - Anti-imperialist war

Make Neoliberal-Capitalism Illegal (again); Don´t Legalize Fasicst-Capitalism

Additionally, I’d hope to go to practice and develop techniques for living sustainably, and to have a good time too,, interact in a socially useful and enjoyable way that is sometimes difficult to do in the capitalists sphere; and maybe even go a little way to work out and actually work to challenge the oppression of the state through its political police force. Well, that’s what I might want to do; however, sometimes you just forget and have a good time.
But I try to remember that not everyone’s taste in music is the same, so imposing a techno-punk bash on everyone at a climate camp might not be a great idea, and also you need to take into account that it gives the police the opportunity to raid it and close it down, but I certainly don’t think that the personal outcome of a good rocky with the coppers is altogether a bad thing, as long as you are prepared for it, and precautions are taken to protect the more vulnerable, like children.
At the G8 protests there’s always a techno punk bash going on somewhere. I enjoyed one such event very much in the early hours of one morning at the French G8, so you tastes are already catered for.
Personally, this week, I have preferred a little of the Clash, Hendrix, Vaughan Williams, Mano Chao, Coltrane or Becker, when I have wanted a little inspiration and enjoyment. Maybe some techno punk tonight; at low volume though because the neighbours might call the police; and I’d wake the baby up It horses for courses, and for my part, I try not to heavily impose my tastes on others … but I am always open to new sounds. – in theory anyway.
Now, turning to another matter I would recommend reading A Brief History of Neoliberalism by David Harvey which I read a few years ago. This guy´s as good as Chomsky really.

I think it is a valuable contribution to the debate and the way forward for the THOSE WHO WANT Another World. I am sure others have similar recommendations of books ideas, and things to do.
The summary at the end talks about that the combined work of anti-capitalist activist academics, environmental and other campaigners, is the only realistic way to bring about radical change – I would have to agree with him. UNITY of Action or barbarism. I have always believed this to be the case.
I would suggest, too, a European meeting in the Pyraneese next year. perhaps under the Banner of: Make Fascist Capitalism and Neoliberal Capitalism IIlegal.
Thatcher went a long way to make neoliberal capitalism legal in Britain then Blair used his democratic dictatorship to continue legalising it.
Bush and the Neocons started to try and legalise Fasscist capitalism in the US. Look at some of the work of John Pilger, it reinforces this, and others too. Hitler made Fascist capitalism legal in Germany. he was a little premature, because it challenged the power and wealth of the elites of the other form of capitalism dominant in the world - which had collapsed dramatically in the 30´s - at the time, and it wa a direct challenge to imperialist Britain. You have to remember that capitalist nations compete with each other, so you get war. The US had the power after the 2WW to impose its model of capitalist regulation on the capitalist world, liberal/social democratic capitalism along side the progression of imperialism

freely available analysis would be more useful

Wouldn't your articles be of more use to the movement if they were freely available on the net?
Those who want hard copies could still be charged.
At least consider putting the climate camp articles online; the future of the climate movement is this country is still very much up for grabs and interventions like this could make a real difference.
