Call Uut: Cardiff Burma/Total Protest Saturday 6th October

llantwit | 04.10.2007 13:33 | Repression | Social Struggles

DO SOMETHING ABOUT BURMA IN CARDIFF - SPREAD THE WORD!

French oil company Total is one of the biggest foreign investors in Burma. It has been propping up the violent and oppressive regime there for years. It has even used army-imposed forced labour to construct a gas pipeline accross the country.

People in Britain have been protesting outside Total garages and offices all week with demos in places like Bradford, Oxford, and London - now it's our turn!

Protest at the Total Garage, Cathedral Road, Cardiff, 11am Saturday 6th October.
Assemble: 10.30am outside Glamorgan Staff Club, Westgate Street to march on the garage.

As the media's attention span wanes, and a spectacle-weary public grows tired of seeing South East Asians getting battered and shot on primetime TV, a full-scale state and military backlash against Burma's people is underway. Demonstrators are being routinely rounded up, put in prison, and quite probably tortured, and more monks are being murdered and beaten every day.

Let's target the companies that prop up Burma's murderous military dictatorship and let them know that they can't get away with supporting despots with impunity.

Bring banners, placards, and whatever else you expect to find - wear saffron or dark red if you want to.

This demonstration is called by the South Wales Anarchists - all are welcome, and please spread the word to your networks!

A better target in Cardiff

Why not perform a citizens arrest on Ann Clywd, surely one of the most evil Welsh people in history ? Not content with being a lying propagandising apologist for the genocide in Iraq, she is now defending other genocides the UK is complicit in.

She was just on a live CNN interview from Cardiff talking about Burma.

She said about the junta: "They are much like the Khmer Rouge, they didn't listen to anyone either".

This is a lie. The Khmer Rouge listened to both Reagand and Thacther, as USuk special forces trained Khmer Rouge death squads - with Thatcher even going on to BBc childrens TV programme Blue Peter's Kampuchea appeal to defend the Khmer Rouge. Thatcher, like Clywd, like Pol Pot if he was still alive, are welcome in Downing Street.

The CNN interviewer then asked her why Britain still trades with Burma when demanding other countries don't.

Clywd -"Britain doesn't trade with Burma"
CNN- "British companies do trade with Burma, especially oil companies, do you think they should be allowed to ?"
Clywd- "Most big British compnaies like BAT have pulled out"

Clywd's carefully cultivated public-image of a bumbling but well-meaning do-gooder has to be exposed for what it is - a sham disguise for a genocidal regime to hide behind.

She has personally helped justify the murder of millions in Iraq, now she is lying about UK involvement in Cambodia and Burma. At least somebody question the bitch in public about her own culpability.

Failing that, apart from Total, you may want to also visit Dragon Travel.

"
Dragon Travel is a travel company based in Wales that organises tours to Burma. Aung San Suu Kyi and the Burmese democracy movement have asked tourists not to visit Burma because it helps fund the regime and gives it legitimacy. Forced and child labour was used to develop many tourist facilities.
