Crest Nicholson upsets Gloucestershire Residents

Panjan | 03.10.2007 14:25 | Ecology | Social Struggles

Crest Nicholson have upset residents in a Cotswold village by ignoring requests by the local community for a review of serious issues associated with a development in Woodmancote near Cheltenham. Local resident have repeatedly requested meetings with Crest Nicholson to discuss what is seen by many as a local eyesore. A Downing Street E Petition has been started by residents in order to force a central government review of the planning decisions that led to the development.

The Crest Nicholson Bushcombe Lane Eyesore

Crest Nicholson is at the centre of major dispute with local residents in Gloucestershire. Crest Nicholson, a national builder of some repute, was bought this year for £715m by a consortium company, Castle Bidco Ltd; owned by Scottish Billionaire Sir Tom Hunter and HBOS. Crest Nicholson are finishing off a building development in Woodmancote near Cheltenham in Gloucestershire. The local planning authority, Tewkesbury Borough Council refused planning permission for the development, but this was overturned on appeal by, the then, John Prescott Office. Indeed John Prescott made a fleeting visit to the proposed site before permission was granted.

Since then their have been many contentious issues with the development, which is crammed to capacity with a wide range of 2 and 3 story houses. The issues have ranged from flood risks to the lack of space for refuge vehicles and the Emergency Services. The latter seems fundamentally wrong.

However, there has been no issue more contentious than where the building work crashes into Bushcombe Lane. The high profile of the houses, their proximity to the Lane and an ill conceived and dangerous access footpath have has infuriated local residents, whose views were ignored during the planning process and are now faced with an eyesore which meets with universal condemnation. Most Bushcombe Lane residents fear at least a 10% reduction in the value of their properties. The residents have created a WEB Site at www.crestnicholson.org to highlight their plight but fear that little will be done.

It can only be hoped that Sir Tom Hunter's largesse will spill over into his acquisitions and cause Crest Nicholson to have a change of heart on the Bushcombe Lane landscaping issues.

The path may not be the most beautiful thing around, but neither are some of the 1960's looking houses in Bushcombe Land/ Drive.

From the picture it is obviously going to be landscaped with appropriatte plants and interestingly I can see no pavements so don't dare lecture about safety!!!

GROW UP PLEASE!!! you want it blocked only because it doesn't fit your ideals and someone dares to want change

A small Victory for Common Sense!

A meeting has taken place on the 14th November 2007 between Crest Nicholson and Tewkesbury Borough Council Planning Department to discuss outstanding issues with the Woodmancote Development. At the meeting it was made clear that Crest Nicholson must apply for retrospective planning permission for the Bushcombe Lane Pathway, or risk Enforcement. Residents are hoping that this will create an opportunity for public comment, and that the strength of feeling against the design of the pathway will prevail and force a rethink in terms of layout and materials.

the same issues i.e flooding/safety of roads etc have been thrown up on the current evesham development.the localauthority has refused to adopt the roads due to safety issues but crest get round this by employing a managing agent and pretending its to make the development more exclusive!
