poem

some day they will
write about us, why
we did next to nothing
to stop our government
before it took the vote away,
before it went totally nuts

it was all about products,
this gadget and that thing

we loved our products more
than our children, more than
decency and justice and peace

we supersized our lifestyle
til there was no way to have it
unless someone else paid,
unless someone else died

but some day this will change
and the truth will be told
about pettiness, ugliness

about the millions of dead
we put on our credit cards,
a bill we didn't want to pay,
a blink in the eye of history
