Circus Mondao Demo - Wakefield

Wakefield Animal Rights Group | 26.09.2007 20:26 | Animal Liberation | Sheffield

Wakefield Animal Rights held a demonstration this evening at Circus Mondao, in Tingley, to protest against their use of animals in acts.

8 protesters held placards and chanted for an hour, highlighting the cruelty and abuse of animals by Mondao, and calling for the public to boycott the show.

As a reaction to increasing pressure, the circus staff have become increasingly violent. One of the animal handlers kicked the megaphone, pushed protesters and even tried to steal an animal costume! They then went round calling us criminals to people who went in - it's not us who has been cautioned for doing an illegal show in Sussex though is it?!

Following their performance in Calverley, we were contacted by a concerned member of the public who had witnessed circus staff whipping a horse for not complying and hitting a ferret.

The police later arrived and added some nice flashing lights, drawing attention to the demo, whilst the landowner and circus staff made a complaint and spoke to protesters about some criminal damage he said had been done.

The passing public honked horns in support as "No Excuse for Animal Abuse", "Shame, Shame, Shame on You!" and "Human Liberation, Animal Rights - One Struggle, One Fight" was chanted.
