I don't belieeeeeve it!

Victor Meldrew | 18.09.2007 17:03 | Analysis | Other Press

Lightweight, opportunist George Galloway is to appear on ITV at 10pm this evening.

The title of the programme is "Don't call me stupid" which ironically is exactly what Galloway is.

Even more ironic is that Galloway will be discussing his knowledge of class-politics and struggle. They'll have a job stringing that out to five minutes let alone half an hour.

The point of the "celebrity" show is that two people must learn all about the other person's specialty, and then compete to see who has learnt more.

Galloway will be facing Lady Victoria Hervey.

You know how he likes to hob-nob with rich and famous, and working class oiks.

Yet another nail in the coffin of the Respec' coalition.

I don't believe you

Why have you posted this crap here? It's not news, it's celebrity shit... the same shit you are complaining about. Go buy a copy of Hello magazine or something and stay off indymedia.

think this is news

Is this news?

""Yet another nail in the coffin of the Respec' coalition.""

That's what makes this news.

You may not have noticed, but "anarchism" as you like to call it or "activism" is completely irrelevant to the vast majority of people in this country.

If you want a newswire that only deals with these things, then lobby the IMC moderators to make it a password-approved site which will make it even more irrelevant than it unfortunately already is.

Urban 75 is relatively more relevant, but anything which goes against the middle class, politically correct moderators will be deleted and the author banned.

If you regard yourself as left-wing, look no further than Indymedia, Urban 75 or the UK left network to see why the left in Britain has been in terminal decline for 20 years or more.

You really understand nothing to put it politely.

That is why 40% of people don't vote - they aren't anarchists, they think all politicians are a bunch of lying scum.

The right turn in Labour, the demise of the SSP and Forward Wales and the imminent disintegration of Respect is perfect evidence of this.

"That is why 40% of people don't vote - they aren't anarchists, they think all politicians are a bunch of lying scum."

Hurrah for that.

You were however, trying to explain why it was news, before you shot yourself in the foot.

According to you, not only do the working need to be lead by the nose in a leftwards direction, but for them news is celebrity fluff about "lying scum".

I clearly explained why I thought this was news, and as the majority of posts I make are hidden, I assume there must be some validity to this.

You may think that people not voting is a good thing. Personally I don't.

Whilst it should be accepted that capitalist parties are corrupt, people who don't vote is usually through apathy, ignorance or exasperation.

They most certainly haven't become revolutionary anarchists who are about to join you in "direct action" on the barricades to defend animal rights, or gays, or gypsies, or whatever you believe in.

In fact quite the opposite, when rot sets into the system, the far-right start to gain ground and make advances.

Does this sound familiar?

Analysis

19.09.2007 18:43

The analysis section is there for a reason and it is to counter for posts such as this.

I seem to recall a quote about political movements with no ideology becoming meaningless.

So, you can go ony as many demos, marches, put up stickers, flyposters, take direct action, etc, but if you haven't got a coherent ideology and a party to back iy up, then it is all worth very little.

The fragmented, sectarian and miniscule anarchist movement in Britain has gained virtually nothing during Indymedia's seven years.

So apart from minor successes, most of these activities could be viewed as being pointless as there is no coherent ideological backbone guiding action.

Was recently reading about Bordiga ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bordiga) , a left communist, who believed that there must be a doctrine to a movement or you end up in the post-modern morass of today with radical feminists, animal rights, nudists, anti war, anti nuclear, etc all claiming to be part of a movement which is merely a motley collection of disparate interest groups.

There is no analysis in your celebrity nonsense trivia but indymedia haven't removed it so it appears they approve.

Galloway & SWP soon to be divorced

20.09.2007 10:23

Some of you may be aware that Galloway has expressed dissatisfaction with leading members of RESPECT, mainly John Rees General Secertary also SWP leading member.

Galloway has virtually demanded that Rees steps down from his position, in a 300 London wide SWP meeting 2 weeks ago, Rees states that a line has to be draw somewhere, the SWP has made many compromises, Galloway has been shifting the party too much towards the right. Galloway is teaming up with careerist middle class muslim businessmen whereas the SWP would rather attract the trade unions to drag the project leftwards.

I have been in the SWP for 15 years, once very enthuastic with RESPECT and galloway but now very disappointed with Galloway's super inflated ego which reared its ugly head during Big Brother embrassing appearance, he's hardly tribune for the oppressed.

I have had grievances with Galloway for sometime but only now has the SWP leadership voiced their concerns. Its very unfortunate to announce that the SWP will divorce from Galloway but I do think it is necessary and very likely.

RESPECT national conference will be in Novemeber and I predict that a fallout will occur then. It has to be said that without the SWP he has no chance of winning the Polar MP seat he hoping to gain but that said he has such a grandiose overrated opinion of himself he may delude himself and think he will win.

May personal take is, lets diss Galloway as he is tarring the SWP and all of our traditions.

Oh! Darling, please believe me

Oh! Darling
The Beatles

Oh! Darling, please believe me
I'll never do you no harm
Believe me when I tell you
I'll never do you no harm

Oh! Darling, if you leave me
I'll never make it alone
Believe me when I beg you
Don't ever leave me alone

When you told me you didn't need me anymore
Well you know I nearly broke down and cried
When you told me you didn't need me anymore
Well you know I nearly broke down and died

Oh! Darling, please believe me
I'll never let you down
Believe me when I tell you
I'll never do you no harm

I just believe in me
