International Non Violence Day

Sylvia Swinden | 17.09.2007 15:12 | Anti-militarism

A proposal to bring awareness to individuals and groups about International Non Violence Day, on October 2nd, Gandhi´s birthday, as agreed by a resolution of the United Nations.

Given the state of violence the world finds itself in today, not only in Irak and other war zones but also in other areas and with reference to other forms of violence, such as economic, racial, religious, ecological, psychological violence, etc, a campaign is being conducted by various national and internaational non violence organisations to make Oct 2nd, which being Gandhi´s birthday has been declared International Non Violence Day by the UN, a moment when thousands of TV stations around the world remind us of the need to change direction.
To this end we would like to propose to all those sick of the violence to download a spot to that end, that can be found in www.silo.ws (click on video spot, the video can be downloadedin in differet qualities) in order to contribute to this current of non violence growing in the world. Then the spot can be shared with other people and can be uploaded on web tv stations, news, screens in public places, (eg. pubs about to show football matches!), etc.
The London Centre of Cultures, www.centreofcultures.org.uk, part of the UK Forum for Non Violence wishes to contribute to the use of the Media for peace and the well being of society rather than for the promotion of more violence.
