Mayor of Venice Massimo Cacciari's speech concerning the release of Pegah Emambakhsh
«I read with relief about the choices made by the English Government about the difficult incident occurred to Pegah Emambakhsh: I really hope that it will be a first step toward welcoming her in Europe and to avoid her conviction in Iran. For this reason I rely on the awareness and tradition already shown by the English Government concerning asylum rights.
The City of Venice has actively participated to the international mobilization and I am constantly in contact with the Italian Government, particularly with Minister Barbara Pollastrini, so that all necessary steps to avoid a tragic conclusion of this incident will be done.
For this reason I renew the willingness to welcome Pegah in Venice, sure to interpret the will of the City and its tradition of civilization». Massimo Cacciari
