It was refreshing to hear the Israeli team and national anthem greeted with booing and jeering, Behavior normally reserved for Germany and Argentina. All quite audible on the BBC coverage.

And I thought football fans were brain-dead when it came to politics. You live and learn.

Seriously wishful thinking there, I can't think of an anthem they don't drown out with nationalistic howling: they ARE politically brain-dead.

You obviously haven't been to many internationals (if at all).

British fans are normally respectful during the pre-match ceremonies, except as mentioned Germany and Argentina.
