Disarming DSEi: The Spacehijackers own a tank and plan to use it!

debordisdead | 06.09.2007 12:43 | DSEi 2007 | Anti-militarism | Repression | Terror War | London

On September 11, DSEI (Death Systems Equipment International), the worlds largest arms faire opens at the Excel Centre in the Docklands. The Space Hijackers, who have joined forces with an international art collective called Artists Anonymous, have decided to join in. Together they have now bought their own tank, and plan to pay the Arms dealers a visit. It's not very clever, but it should be amusing.

Press release:
THE SPACE HIJACKERS OWN A TANK AND PLAN TO USE IT !

Tank Press Conference
11am, Thursday 6 September 2007

On September 11, DSEI (Death Systems Equipment International), the worlds largest arms faire opens at the Excel Centre in the Docklands. The Space Hijackers, who have joined forces with an international art collective called Artists Anonymous, have decided to join in. Together they have now bought their own tank, and plan to pay the Arms dealers a visit. It's not very clever, but it should be amusing.

The Hijackers and AA would like to tell the esteemed members of the press a little more about why they have decided to switch sides and join the baddies. Or at least, provide a bit more information about the whole project, answer some questions and make up some excuses.

(And there is free beer. Yeah, it's early, but it is a good way to get over the hangover. Ok, and coffee too.)

Please contact Agent Greenman if you would like to attend.

stupid press release

posted in the afternoon, advertising a press conference in the morning... thanks for nothing

too late

pathetic

why is it fucking brilliant? so a bunch of 'anarchists' can get themselves on t.v. again:  http://youtube.com/watch?v=-Y_AW_7WvC4
where they had a chance to 're-assess their opinions of the old global capitalists and vice versa' and 'force them into a space where they had to have a conversation with each other'!
maybe the space hijackers think that playing cricket with city boys will help stop world wars and global poverty by tapping into their consciences while knocking a few sixes...

what you going to do with the tank? drive it, get a few photos taken, maybe get in the papers or even better in the evening news so you can show mummy and daddy what great work you've been upto. PR stunts may be good for selling smoothies and trainers and the like - but stopping the world's murderers meeting up to buy and sell their weapons will need a lot more thought.
glad to see you're spending your pocket money wisely...

Spacehijackers anarchists?

06.09.2007 17:10

Don't attach the term anarchist to the spacehijackers you idiot, they are middle class arty wankers to whom everything is just a joke. Why don't they fuck off with the clowns!

@narchist

you're right

06.09.2007 17:39

couldn't agree with you more mate.

just because the above posters don't get it

06.09.2007 18:18

it doesn't mean they have to slag it off in self-righteous, 'I've got all the answers' mode which is more at home in the evangelical church than on indymedia. Pleeease guys (i'm assuming you are guys), can you accept the fact that SH are just creating innovative ways of making a point - and if we don't find new ways of resisting the arms dealers and capitalism in general, the bastards get very very good at containing us.
Innovate and create yourself - i'm sure you're capable of it!

Missing the point

06.09.2007 20:25

As usual, a lot of people seem to be totally missing the point.

Perhaps they are setting about a ridiculous idea because the DSEi arms fair has been largely ignored by the media in the past. Numbers of protesters have been dwindling, and the arms dealers are having a very easy time of it. Perhaps the idea of buying a tank will set off a bit of a spark in people's heads, get people talking about the arms fair, and the fact it's in london.

Perhaps by inviting journalists along and giving them beer rather than ignoring them as the enemy, they hope to get some needed coverage of the fair before it happens.

Just because someone doesn't dress in black and start fights, doesn't mean they are not an anarchist.

If you think the Hijackers are shit, and a bunch of pussy footing middle class art students, then why don't you see if you can do something better, or is it easier to just moan on indymedia about art school wankers and the way the press ignore the real activists?
