OXFORD LORD MAYOR THANKS LOCAL NUKEWATCH TEAM

The Lord Mayor of Oxford, John Tanner, today thanked the local nukewatch team for the work they have done to highlight the dangers of convoys that carry nuclear weapons and special nuclear materials on Oxfordshire roads.

An exhibition in the Lord Mayor’s Parlour had pictures of the warhead convoys, under MOD police escort, travelling on the busy A34, M40 and A43 roads.

Lord Mayor Tanner said the team had raised the issue of the transport of nuclear weapons, road safety and the possibility of accidents, and brought out into the open the planned replacement of Britain’s Trident nuclear weapons.
