ARM - is this a Hoax or what?

Animal Friend | 30.08.2007 16:32

I for one hope the reports of the animal rights militia' saction to poison Savlon
is just a hoax or the work of the dirty tricks dept of government.

The animal rights movement can do without the violence or ARM, if this a geniune
action by them. Is it a hoax or dirty tricks?
Can anyone confirm one way or the other please?

Here's the article from ITN website.

"Savlon 'contaminated by extremists'

ITN - Thursday, August 30 01:06 pmThousands of tubes of Savlon have been recalled after animal rights extremists claimed they had been deliberately contaminated.

Boots, Superdrug and Tesco removed the antiseptic cream after the Animal Rights Militia claimed it had tampered with 250 products.

An ARM blog says the group carried out the contamination because it believes there are links between Savlon manufacturer Novartis and testing firm Huntingdon Life Sciences.

The claim, posted two days ago, says: "Over the last five days over 250 tubes and bottles of Novartis's antiseptic product Savlon have been tampered with in the North of England in stores such as Superdrug, Boots and other well known stores.

"We don't want to kill living beings like Novartis, but the side effects and the inevitable hospital stay will give people an idea of what Novartis pays for inside Huntingdon Life Sciences."

In a statement, Boots said it had been alerted to the alleged contamination by the blog.

"We want to reassure customers that their safety is our number one priority and therefore we have taken the decision as a precautionary measure to withdraw all Savlon products from our shelves nationwide until further investigations have been carried out," it said.

Superdrug was alerted to the incident on Wednesday and pulled Savlon products from stores, saying: "We worked with the police yesterday and took the products off sale yesterday afternoon."

Tesco said it had temporarily withdrawn Savlon from sale on the advice of the police".

But the meree threat of such action has forced a load of supermarkets to take savlon off the shelves - hugley denting the animal abuse company. ARM did the same trick a while back when the makers of Mars did a some animal tests. There were no mars bars on the shelves for weeks, the company lost huge wads of cash, and dropped animal testing - result!
Animal Rights people are compassionate and respectful towards all life, i am confident that no-one in our movement would seek to poision an innocent individual, like our enimies do.
Deal with HLS, deal with us!

Hopefully the stocks will soon be back on the shelves and I can continue to use this wonderful product on my ever sore bottom. Thankyou.

This is a tactic that has been used by a tiny number of animal rights activists in the 80s and 90s although not reportedly of late. The majority of animal rights activists including myself would condemn any contamination or any action that may put any living being at risk. However, in times when people are having their houses raided simply for peacefully demonstrating perhaps they are being driven to extreme tactics.

Hoax?

It seems that people don't respond to the morality statements from within the animal rights movement. It has clearly been shown, that the majority of people will not respond to issues of climate change, animal suffering, torture, and the extinction of species. This being the case a move toward action that acts as a disincentive to committing these crimes against animals and the planet need to be considered more seriously.

A moral holier than thou attitude does not seem to be saving animals, in many cases their situation and ours seems to be getting worse. People who tacitly support these industries too readily have ignored pacisifist approaches, and now perhaps it is time to adopt some of the tactics that only the State legitimately utilises.
