Fascist threats - police shut pub

We've just had a phone call from the landlady at the pub we meet at, the Hare and Hounds, in Manchester. The police have been in and told her that Combat 18 had details of our meeting on their site and that they were planning on turning up. She was told to shut her pub from 6pm. So there's no meeting tonight. And we now need to look for a new venue (as will the other political groups who meet there)

Could 'Combat 18' even turn over a meeting in a phonebox?

yeah well

The point is that it doesn't matter what they can do. The landlady was told by the cops to shut the pub. The threat alone was enough. The pub will be shut at 6 tonight.

Cops

Sounds like it's the cops that have closed the meeting rather than "C18" - the silly cunts threaten to kill me about once a week, but I'm yet to be offered a police bodyguard! Do you know which site it's supposed to be on?

cops and scum

no idea. I just had a very anxious phone call from the landlady of the pub. She sounded very upset and frightened. She's been told details of our meeeting were on the "Combat 18" website and that they were going to come along. The more I think about it, the more I think it's a cheap scam to wreck our meeting. No doubt if it had gone ahead not a fash would have been seen.

Liverpool

I gather the same was tried with the AF meeting in Liverpool - though that one went ahead. It's an old trick. I briefly looked at the 'C18' guestbook earlier, but couldn't see any mention of it. The cops must know they're a fucking joke. In Leeds a year or so ago the cops put a lot of pressure on a squat holding an Antifa gig, and on the punters attending. Makes you wonder if this started with internet fantacist nazis or with the cops themselves.

last night

clearly it was a cheap trick by someone. A few people turned up last night and surprisingly found no fash there at all. Just an empty pub, with no doubt a very frightened landlady.

Poor woman. And after that, and the loss of a night's takings, I imagine she's got mixed feelings (at best) about having you back. It still sounds like a cop trick to me. Might be worth getting a friendly solicitor involved. Good luck for the future anyway.

Just a suggestion

If it becomes a recurring theme try booking two or more venues, only advertise the one, and keep the venue secret until the last possible moment.
