The Welsh Republican Army renews demand for Charles Windsor to leave Cymru Mansion and stop his plans to tunr it into holiday homes

Republican army’ renews action threat Aug 20 2007

by Hywel Trewyn, Daily Post

A GROUP calling itself the Welsh Republican Army has repeated its threats against Prince Charles and claimed to have brigades operating in both North and South Wales.

The group has now contacted the Daily Post by telephone to explain its origins and aims in greater detail.

Last week, the newspaper received emails from the WRA threatening “action” against the Prince of Wales if he did not sell his estate near Llandovery.

A spokesman, who refused to give his name for “operational reasons”described the WRA as well-established with “brigades” in both North and South Wales.

Describing Prince Charles as the “next leader of the English”, he said: “We think it is improper that he has the title Prince of Wales, purchasing this estate in Wales and renting it out as holiday lets.”

“If he (Charles) continues to live here and continues to hold the title Prince of Wales, he continues to be a legitimate target for Republican action.

“The WRA’s primary objective is to establish a Welsh socialist republic and free Cymru from its shackles. We will continue to oppose the British state’s domination and rule of our country.

“We can trace our lineage back to MAC (Mudiad Amddiffyn Cymru – Movement for the Defence of Wales).

He said MAC had been formed from the Free Wales Army which ended when its leaders were jailed after protests against the drowning of the village of Capel Celyn in Cwm Tryweryn, near Bala, and Prince Charles’ investiture as Prince of Wales in Caernarfon in 1969.

He said the WRA was an independent group which had re-formed in 2000.
He refused to say how many members or supporters WRA had, but added: “We’ve got two divisions – the 1st North Wales Brigade and 1st South Wales Brigade.”

He said: “Our White Eagle recruitment drive launched last year was very successful.

“Obviously, I can’t reveal anything because of operational security reasons.”

The email the Daily Post received from the WRA last week threatened “direct action” against the prince if he failed to leave his newly-acquired Welsh estate Llwynywormwood near Llandovery by December 11.

He would otherwise “become a legitimate target for republican action.”
It also called on him to relinquish his claim to the title Prince of Wales.
The threats have been taken seriously and North and South Wales Police Special Branch officers are investigating.

Are the really going to "tunr" it into holiday homes?
