Captain May, the Internet Intelligence writer, continues to investigate Noble Resolve, the Portland Nuke exercise that has military officials changing their story and causing alarm.

NOBLE RESOLVE, 8/23 -- Captain May / Mike Francis (Oregonian)

Mike Francis wrote:

Nice to talk to you, Eric. I'll go back and catch up with your coverage.

Meant to mention that, when I was still in the newsroom, I went down to Crawford for a few days soon after Cindy S. arrived and when the sheriff's were still letting people camp and park along the roads. Got to listen to Steve Earle and Craig McMurtry, but kept thinking about the Texas Trilogy: Bosque County Romance. Sadly, the McLennan sheriff's deputy I was talking to had never heard of it. Must have been a Yankee.

See the attached note. The contact name, Kay Fristad, may or may not be productive for you. You might try calling her boss, CPT Mike Braibish at 503.584.3886

Good luck.

Captain Eric May replies:

Hmm... We may have met, as I was camping in the ditches of Camp Casey. In fact AP took a widely-published photo of me doing my daily martial arts exercises:

A man calling himself Captain May does a morning workout on the side of the road at Cindy Sheehan's anti-war camp near President Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas, Monday, Aug. 22, 2005. The camp started by the California mother who lost her son in Iraq is entering its third week. Sheehan flew to Los Angeles last week after her 74-year-old mother had a stroke but is expected to return to Texas in a few days.

Hideous knuckles are my trademark, though all of us black belt in my school have them. There's another Camp Casey photo of me that answers Joe Rose's question to me yesterday: "What made you begin to write against Bush?" -  http://homepage.mac.com/kaaawa/iblog/C177199123/E20050823090852/

If Mr. Rose want to use a photo of me in his upcoming Noble Resolve story -- which I am eager to read -- there are sever at:  http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&um=1&hl=en&q=captain+may

Thanks for explaining how you got the information that Noble Resolve entailed a Portland nuke scenario. The Oregon National Guard general who imparted that info to you was saying the same thing that all my sources were saying, until JFCOM changed the story (and the scenario) two weeks ago. Here's the link to your editorial:  http://www.oregonlive.com/editorials/oregonian/index.ssf?/base/editorial/1186705535224610.xml&coll=7
