Give Them Up

Last Night at 7:30 pm 11 year old Rhys Jones was shot in the neck by a hooded gunman riding a bmx bike.A witness said."I came out of the Fir Tree for a smoke.I saw the gunman pull up and I heard a bang. Then there was two more.I looked round and saw the boy laying on the floor. The gunman held the gun in both hands. He never flinched.Girls were screaming.I ran to the boy.He was trying to talk but could not get his words out.Someone called his mum and she came. She was holding him in her arms and crying. She said "Stay with us son".
Rhys died shortly after in Alder Hey childrens hospital. This comes on the day when two men and a boy are convicted of the murder last August of 19 year old Liam Smith, who I wrote about as Ventura. They come from the same area as Rhys and are members of the Crocky crew.Liam Smith was the leader of the Norris Green Strand gang.During a prison visit at Altcourse a few words of "dissin"were exchanged by Smith and some of the Crocky crew who were visiting a gang member.A phone call was made and the order was given to summond gang members to kill Smith.Rhys knew some of these gang members but had nothing to do with them. Why he was targeted is a complete mystery.Everyone knows who they are but they are too afraid to speak out,(see" strand of flowers") But now, as predicted a child has been shot dead.So now the time has come to give up these thugs. If you know anything call crimestoppers or police on 0151 709 6010.

I really hope there is a response on this and that local witnesses do come forward.
Over in south London I've noticed more and more teenagers wandering around wearing t-shirts saying "Stop The Snitching". The t-shirts make me furious - too few people are willing to stand up to the dumb kids with guns as it is. Suggesting that it's not cool to bring the police in when local kids are being shot is irresponsible and dangerous. The slogan was crap enough when it was a craze in the US.
