local rag report

from the yarmouth mercury:

Norfolk police declared a major incident early today after a mob of 100 bottle-throwing people attacked Yarmouth police station.

The drama unfolded after police arrested three people in a van with sound equipment thought to be destined for an illegal rave.

Police formed a line to protect the police station as beer and wine bottles were hurled at the building.

Two police vehicles were damaged and officers narrowly avoided serious injury from missiles.

Chief Superintendent Bob Scully said the arrested trio were not involved with the “inexcusable” attack at the station, but officers were linking the arrests with the incident.

Two police vehicles were damaged by the mob and officers narrowly escaped serious injuries.

Shortly after the mob dispersed, an illegal music event was reported in a warehouse on the town's Harfrey's industrial estate.

Chief Supt Scully said: “What occurred was entirely unacceptable - large scale anti-social behaviour carried out by a large group of people - and is inexcusable. This behaviour and activity simply won't be tolerated.”

Chief Supt Scully said people should stay away from the industrial estate, because it was a crime scene.

“We are taking this matter extremely seriously and are looking to bring this situation to a swift conclusion,” he said.

At about 10am police began action to disperse the revellers, initially thought to be 200-300.

Fucking facists

It was a damn stupid idea to try and set up a rave on yarmouth beach, that caused the stack to get nicked, and consequently the pwnage of the cop shop, which wasnt exactly a suprise given the attitude of the local police latley, generally and in dealing with raves, and the average yarmouth IQ of 12. Police were called in from all over Norfolk and the police began stopping all civillian viechles along all main routes into the Greater Yarmouth area, using laws bought in under the guise of terrorism. Those who fitted the description of "breathing and under the age of 40" where asked for identification and descriptions where noted along with DOB and name, number plates and car make\model\colour. The occupants where then warned not to attend the event and that if they did the event was being videoed and "we know ou u r, innt!".

As for what happend later I cannot comment but mates have said the filth did very little and just stood about smelling of boot polish.

If anyone happens to read this who organises such events in east anglia please dont try it on yarmouth beach again, even a retard could tell it wasnt gonna go well and as for setting up again in yarmouth you must be insane! Im sure no-one would have minded driving a few miles out to the sticks.

Raves are not always wrong!

20.08.2007 15:04

I have read all of the points everyone has made and I can see why people are angry and outraged towards some of the behavior that took place this weekend.
I am 30, and have been to many raves (some legal the majority illegal) all over the country for the past 15 years (maybe longer). I do not take drugs and never have. I am a professional person, with an excellent job and if I say so myself an established well off lifestyle. I do not enjoy going to pubs and nightclubs, because I feel forced to dress and act in a certain way. All night my time is spent dodging evil looks and drunken yobs that pick fights over the most pointless of things. That is the bigger problem that society faces right now not free parties. I think you are all forgetting the millions upon millions of pounds in criminal damages and over policing that is taking place every Friday and Saturday all over the UK. Have you forgotten about the drunken rapes and underage entry into nightclubs’, what about the club owners and door security that either sell drugs or turn a blind eye to what goes on in dare I say it “legal” premises.
I; like thousands of others simply go for the music and more importantly the social activity. In all my time going to parties; I personally have never caused a single bit of trouble, been arrested or given reason to justify my arrest. No matter where you go or what you do there will always be people that cannot help spoiling it for the vast majority.
For those of you that have never been to an “Unlicensed/illegal Rave", it is actually a very moving experience and a huge amount of effort , planning and organization goes in to making something like that come together. There are times when I have stood back in admiration for the "coming together" of perfect strangers from all lifestyles, races and religions. In addition, I know many other people my age or older that share the same views. It truly is a magnificent spectacle at times, providing idiots do not want to recklessly disregard people’s welfare and property. Something clearly and disappointingly the event organizes in this weekends instance did not take into consideration,
Having been to literally 100’s of parties such as the one that took place in Yarmouth at the weekend, I believe I am more than qualified to talk about the reasons many people go to events like this. This is not new, raves are not a tool that “youth culture” has developed overnight to stand and protest with. Raves have happened for years, they are a way for people to keep some self-control, to express there beliefs, to be different, not to conform, not to feel like another heard in humanity that must tag along and do what society accredits with correctness.
Some of you may well have heard of a group from Bedfordshire that were known as the “EXODUS COLLECTIVE”. I had the great fortune of visiting them and there parties on a number of occasions. Exodus were in many ways a political movement made up of people that were sick and tired of the oppression the government forced of there community. Everything they strived to achieve was aimed at giving something back to (in the majority) a disadvantaged community. Please take 5 minutes to read the following web links  http://tash.gn.apc.org/exodus3.htm  http://tash.gn.apc.org/exodus2.htm you will be shocked at the stir this small group of (in my opinion) “heroes” managed to make.
The point I am making is this, raves and rave culture is not spawned from violence or the want to commit violence. It is exactly the opposite, in the majority its people wanting to be different and have FUN. In Norfolk alone, there must be 10 different operational soundsytems with up to three or four running every weekend. How often do you here about similar events that happened last night. Most of you are unaware that parties like this go on every weekend on your doorstep. Leaving the places exactly as they are found. As always, you are being force-fed half of the storey by the media under the instruction of the government. What happened at Yarmouth police station and the offices that were broken into over the weekend is not acceptable. Understandably, people are entitled to feel shocked and intimidated by those events. If that is the future for raves and rave culture (Which I seriously doubt) then I will have nothing more to do with the scene.

CHANGE IS ON THE HORIZON

chopped fingers

20.08.2007 17:19

on radio one news at 3pm ish, a women from the ravers side of things said he [police used bolt croppers and chopped off a raver's finger. There was no more context to it than that, where, when or how.

This remains a serious incident regardless and it should be followed up.

'D' - i appreciate your heart is in the right place, but raves are not an alternative of high street drunken violence, they are just inhabited by people who truly want to be there, unlike the monotony of the saturday night pub. The people having a dust up at 3am outside the Loyds Bar are not significantly different from ravers, they're just bored. I've seen a lot of trouble at raves too, it means nothing - we still do it cos we love it, and we shouldn't have to pay to get together and play some music.

Don't isolate the people who attacked the police station - they were attacked first. The police are NOT NEUTRAL, their primary role is to protect property and those that own the majority of it. This makes them highly suspicious of anything that happens outside of a strictly for profit, legally contracted basis, even more so if it creates large public assemblies. If you recognise any problems in society, then the police are part of them. Society's problems are structural, not personal.

Solidarity to all revellers in revolt, well done for sticking up for yourselves.

....but yeah, don't hold parties in antisocial places, if that's what happened.

Smacked round the head? Stand up party people!!

21.08.2007 10:43

EDP (Norfolk daily) ran with a pic of a police visor dripping with blood, whose I wonder? A lot of the party goers were young people from Suffolk and Norfolk looking for a laugh. Whilst I condemn the "organisers" of this party (who did apparently break and enter and did not apparently have permission of landowner = v bad press for most of the well organised parties). Accounts from witnesses and victims speak of a vicious police assault, resulting in significant head injuries, widespread use of pepper spray in confined places etc.

If you or your mates were there POST YOUR ACCOUNTS HERE!! otherwise there will be no alternative to the righteous posturing of the police. Did you notice that on Monday (when the national press were still covering the Yarmouth story) police issued a crime poster of "most wanted" in association with the Rave (also covered in Indymedia) where fun loving party goers were beaten to bits last summer near Duxford? Are ravers going to be placed alongside Al Quaeda for daring to want to have fun outside the violent and gangster ridden clubs and pubs of our city centres? STAND UP PARTY PEOPLE!!

We do need to fight for our right to party, but in the best traditions of non violent direct action or we just become pigs like them. Most importantly you and I need to bear witness and call to account every act of police brutality. Pass the word, post the evidence and party on dudes.

Whassup?

A pattern is emerging?!

Fuck NVDA!

21.08.2007 14:58

We need to confront these pigs directly! Anyone who promotes NVDA has obviously never been in a situation where these bastards have beat the shit out of folks for pure pleasure or revenge. Anyway what do you define as violence? Enough is Enough, solidarity, strenght, determination and violent revolution is what is needed.

gt yarmouth rave

21.08.2007 18:57

The police were simply out of order, from the news i have seen it is made out that ravers simply attacked the police station, this didn't happen. After the police brutally seized most of the rig, hurting many people who had no intention of fighting, many angry ravers retaliated, following the police back to the station.
I want to point out how brutal and out of order the police were, riot vans from essex, suffolk, norfolk and cambridge came and beat senseless many people after no provocation.
Admittedly there were around 20 or so people who were being violent towards the police, and many more shouting verbal abuse, the media fails to highlight the amount of partygoers who were beaten shitless for no reason. Many of my friends were bitten by dogs, many policemen attacked men, women and a pregnant friend of mine who did not provoke the police in any way shape or form.
Another thing which made me angry was the way that the ravers were said to have trashed a business. The rave was poorly planned and after breaking in and realising that the place was still in use, the party moved away from the area, they did not stay and trash it.
The police and media are lying, and the truth needs to be heard.
