Very quick edit.

Kriptick asked me to do a quick edit of his video, which shows tthe Climate Camp being set up from about midnight to just after dawn, and includes encounters with the police. Since then the Camp has grown considerably.

Swearing?

13.08.2007 04:38

Why are the police allowed to swear at us but we are not allowed to swear at the police? The difference being that they can arrest us for swearing but we cannot arrest them for the same thing. In the video a camper used a very common swearword at the police, a swearword I heard several times that very same day on a TV program, and he was threated with arrest for using it. Are the police now acting as moral censors on top of all the other restrictions they are empowered to enforce?

Arrest them all

Swearing is covered by the public order action and is only an offense when it is likely to cause alarm or distress to those in hearing distance. Assuming there were no delicate passer's by likely to be shocked by these naughty words then the police must themselves have considered themselves alarmed or distressed. However, the courts take a dim view of police being shocked by language they experience everyday and they are meant to have tougher skins so an arrest in such cases is unlikely to make it past the CPS unless the cops lie outrageously to strengthen their case.

So, avoid swearing as it gives them an excuse but don't worry to much about threats of arrest as the courts would probably chuck them out.

and let the courts sort them out
