Public health issue as police blockade climate camp site

Sunday | 12.08.2007 17:59 | Climate Camp 2007 | Climate Chaos | Free Spaces | Health | London

For the last couple of hours police have been obstructing access to the climate camp site near Heathrow airport and have refused to allow even water or toilets to be taken onto the legally occupied site.

During the day there has been a kind of on and off blockade by the police. Members of the press have been turned away and negotiations taking place with higher ranking officers to resolve the issue. However, for the last couple of hours the police have returned to blocking all access and delivery vehicles are backing up in the vicinity awaiting to get on site.

Several hundred people are onsite with little water and limited toilet facilities.

No legal justification has been reported for the police action at this time.

Update

People are getting onto site ok as it seems the siege is a vehicle only siege. The blockade is apparently considered retaliation by police against being refused access to the site themselves. Vans are being forced to stop up the road and have to be unloaded by hand and the tat carried in by hand or in wheely bins. That was the situation yesterday (sunday) and it continues this morning (monday).

Police also apparently forced their way onto site this morning to look around, refusing to wait until the appointment made with the fire and health services to check out the site this afternoon.

Now who would have thought of this except some sick bastards in a "control" room?
