Allotmentistas are planning resistance to road development

Matron of Allotment Mischief | 07.08.2007 22:42

Reading Borough Council are a bunch of contemptuous (and surprisingly clueless) bastards!

Amongst the announcements by the Dept of Transport was an obvious seedling of doom for innocent gardeners in Reading. Not content with trying to evict our community garden, them miserable sods at the council want to shoo us off our much beloved (and fully paid up) allotment site so they can build a ROAD. Tescos are already invading our town and building over our hospitals and pushing out local grocers and now we are being prevented from cultivating our organic veg.

The first seeds of resistance are being sown in the town and a website has sprouted

WARNING: this development will also affect the festival site. So all you young folk who enjoy a good bop next to our courgettes, join the resistance or the party will stop. We lost WOMAD last year, so don't think this won't happen to you!

Hi there. Thanks for your support. It looks like this is happening all over the country. We need to unite and support allotments in all our communities. Its cos of this massive push to sell land and redevelo....oh feck it, its cos of nasty capitalist greed at the expense of working class people.

As for the Katesgrove Garden, we need to send a proper update, but the council were gonna evict again but didn't cos all their resources were diverted towards stopping auld ladies from drowning in the floods. Which is exactly what they should have been doing and sodding off and leaving us lot alone.

We are planning to have a community arts day on sunday in which we are inviting the local community to come along and do some sculpturing, painting, anything really. Looks like the council are trying to stop it and have issued an injunction to do. We will still go ahead. There appears to be no further dates on when they will try to evict us...for a third time. we will do a proper update soon.

Thanks again for your support on both of these projects.
